http://Dubizzle.com is one of the few web start-ups in Dubai. Within a few short years the tiny dubizzle team helped the site to become one of the city’s most popular websites and a household name.
Today, we are six full time employees from 4 different countries. After the launch of Dubizzle Version 2 at the beginning of July, we now have plans on expanding the site throughout the country, the Middle East, and Asia. Over the next year we plan to have entered numerous new cities, and to have doubled the size of our team.

Dubizzle is a community website that gives users the chance to buy and sell classifieds, find rentals, properties and flatmates, find jobs, search and review restaurants, and much more. Every day we get thousands of listings and hundreds of comments. Each month we get well over 5.5 million pageviews and 400,000 visits - and all of this comes from being focused on 1 city of approximately 1.5 million people.
Dubizzle was started 3 years ago as an ASP application, and has just recently launched its Version 2 as a Python app built using Django. The new app was a giant leap forward for the site in terms of usability and technology. A ton of new features have been added with the new Django version of dubizzle, as well as a large scale integration with google maps in which we used some creative coding to meet the unique challenge of the Middle East and Asia’s lack of an addressing system. The new version of the site has been getting a windfall of positive feedback, which is especially flattering considering the amount of users who were accustomed to the old layout, functionality and flow.
Who we’re looking for:
We pride ourselves on being a site of international standards in a market full of local expectations. In our opinion, our tiny development team (2 people!) consists of the best two web developers in the region. In the immediate future we would like to hire 2 more developers, after which we plan to be able to say that dubizzle employs the four best web developers in the region.
The candidate will be working as part of a cutting edge web team making use of the latest web technologies to enable Dubizzle to continue its growth. Dubizzle is an ever-expanding site and whomever we hire will be a major part of this. Duties will include maintenance and monitoring of the current website, being involved in design decisions, adding new features to the site, and implementing these features as part of a team or individually.
Although we use the Django framework, we don't expect candidates to be fully up to speed in this area as it's still an up and coming framework. What we do want is an enthusiastic programmer who’s experienced in web development using an MVC framework, and who understands object oriented programming and best practices in web development. A good understanding of Javascript, and object oriented Javascript are also required. Any experience in CSS/HTML and knowledge of cross browser compatibility issues, version control (svn), and distributed version control (git) is a bonus.
